Before you export any coffee products to the United States, register your company with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA), to avoid the detention of your shipment.
Then, file a Prior Notice with each shipment, before your cargo or package arrives in the United States (first airport or port). A Prior Notice Confirmation Number must be submitted during U.S. customs clearance.
Often, the Prior Notice is processed by the U.S. Importer of Record. However, FedEx, UPS, DHL and other shipping companies will not accept your package or cargo unless and until a Prior Notice is provided.
Furthermore, the U.S. Importer of Record, the Ultimate Consignee, is also expected to be the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) Agent for the purpose of U.S. customs clearance. But you can also request the service of a professional.
Finally, if your products are not green coffee in jute bags, make sure your labels are FDA compliant.

In recent years, dietary supplement products consisting of pure or highly concentrated caffeine in powder and liquid forms have emerged on the market. The difference between a safe amount and a toxic or life-threatening amount of caffeine in these highly concentrated products is very small.
Just one teaspoon of pure powdered caffeine can contain the same amount of caffeine as 28 cups of coffee (approximately 2.7 grams), and a half cup of a liquid highly concentrated caffeine product contains the equivalent of more than 20 cups of coffee. Poured bulk density of powdered caffeine is 0.55 g/mL and therefore one standard teaspoon is 2.7 g and one standard tablespoon is 8.1 g.
These are toxic amounts that can have serious health consequences, health effects, including rapid or dangerously erratic heartbeat, seizures and death. Vomiting, diarrhea, stupor and disorientation are also symptoms of caffeine toxicity.
In comparison, one cup (8 oz) of ground coffee contains 95 mg of caffeine.
FDA considers some such products to be adulterated under section 402(f)(1)(A) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) [21 U.S.C. § 342(f)(1)(A)], because they are dietary supplements that present a significant or unreasonable risk of illness or injury under the conditions of use recommended or suggested in the labeling.
